Clients, prospective clients, friends, and colleagues, WELCOME TO 2011!!! 2010 was a big year for Georgia Nelson Photography. I made a shift toward digital files last year from prints, which was well-received by many of you. I met so many new and interesting people, made new friends, and grew a lot in defining who I am as a photographer. In 2011, I want to continue this trend and shift even further toward full digital.
While the collections in 2010 were excellent for those looking to pick up a few boutique items, such as the mini storyboards or mini albums, many of my treasured clients felt painted into a corner over collection choices. Some just wanted X number of digital files without having to get all of the boutique items attached to them. Boutique items were, quite frankly, bloating the collection prices to a point that I felt some families were unable to get what they truly wanted from their sessions. I have taken all of the feedback, run some light statistical analysis on purchasing trends, and have decided to apply the KISS principle to this year’s collections.
In 2011, the digital collections will shift to providing 5, 10, or all files. Each collection will come with a complimentary 5×7 reference print of each selected file. These prints are a courtesy to the client, so that they can see what proper color and brightness outputs are on a print from their files. If you take the files to Walmart and they come back looking “off”, you’ll have a basis of comparison. Additionally, each collection comes with a means of storing your disk and reference prints in a safe manner, away from sun damage and risk of loss.
So where are the boutique items and prints, you wonder? Instead of forcing them onto my clients and pushing the prices of collections even higher (thus making them less enticing) – I’m instead going to give discounts on those particular items. If anyone wants to add an album to their order after purchasing a collection, they may do so at a heavy discount. The discounts increase dramatically as you go up the chain of collections.
Image 1: This custom keepsake tin will be included in the lower two digital collections. It is 5×7 in size and includes an image of your choice on the front cover.

Image 2: For the collection containing all files, clients will receive a keepsake image box. It contains a wrap-around design with image(s) of your choice. The interior is lined with black canvas and remains shut with a small clasp.

Image 3: An example of the full collection (note that the 5 and 10 file collections will have the keepsake tin instead of the keepsake image box)

These keepsake boxes are an excellent way to store images not only from your session, but throughout the year as well! They make great organizational devices as well as added decor for your home!
On another note, I am currently expecting my second child toward the end of April. I know many families will be interested in getting portraits done in the Spring. I will be on maternity leave from early-April until the end of May. I will begin taking sessions for the Spring following Memorial Day weekend. I apologize for the inconvenience, though I’m sure many of you will understand the importance of family and taking care of a demanding newborn. We’re looking forward to welcoming Miss Anne Elyse Nelson to the family around Easter time this year!
